Sierra Nevada Yarn Crawl

Sierra Nevada Yarn Crawl

yarn crawl

One of the more fun events in Northern California for knitters is the Sierra Nevada Yarn Crawl (September 11-13, 2020).  Nine different yarn shops in Northeast California formed an event to promote knitters and their love for yarn. It’s more than just a fiber event; you take an epic annual event, visit many shops, and discover what makes this knitting community so great. This year you can obtain the project bag and enamel pin from each shop.  The added plus for this year is it is Virtual.  The crawl takes place on Facebook and Instagram. Either attend through Facebook or Instagram on the scheduled times. Another way is to go to each yarn shop and see the sales and kits related to the yarn crawl.

All three days, there are classes, meet & greets, trunk shows, play Bingo for chances in drawings, and other events. Each store will give tours of their shops, you can meet some of the local dyers and industry leaders, and even see the fantastic fall scenes all around Lake Tahoe.  Sorry that there won’t be the different luncheons or personal meets, but due to the coronavirus, we will put that off until next time.

The first day on Facebook has shown magnificent works by many knitters.  The yarn colors are shown through clear, bright photos. There is an introduction to Purl the sheep. She lives at hoboranch and is a Rambouillet. The picture of Purl, all dolled up like a glamor girl. She said her fiber compares to merino in strength, softness, and luster. The nine yarn shops participating are:

  • Jimmy Beans Yarn Shop – Reno, Nevada
  • Knits & Knots – Lake Tahoe
  • Pioneer Yarn- Minden, Nevada
  • Knitting Nest – Stateline, Nevada
  • Lofty Lou’s – Placerville, Nevada
  • Auburn Needleworks – Auburn, California
  • Atelier Yarns – Truckee, California
  • Heathered Yarn Company – Grass Valley, California
  • Yarn Refuge – Reno, Nevada

If you missed this year, then plan to go next year.  They are a lot of fun, and you see what is current with yarns and patterns. There are always prizes and fellowships.
